As part of the Professional Knowledge Series by the Singapore Institute of Architects, we were pleased to host architects at the EDL Regional Headquarters for a talk by Gwen Tan, Formwerkz Architects, titled Beyond Architecture: A Journey through Different Lenses.
Gwen shared the story behind the EDL Regional Headquarters, tracing a journey that began over a decade ago and culminated in the completion of our flagship gallery in 2024. Her presentation unpacked how the design was shaped by tropical climate response, learnings from our previous gallery, evolving user behaviours, and the operational realities of a regional headquarters, highlighting how architecture can be informed as much by use, data, and workflow as by form.
The session and gallery tour explored how these considerations translate into a holistic spatial experience, from lighting and microclimate strategies to material detailing, sustainability, and the integration of online and offline touchpoints.
