Home to a family of four, the first approach for this bungalow in Kuala Lumpur was to open up the main living spaces which were aligned against a central axis, to bring in a sense of fludity and spaciousness.

What stands out in this home is not immediately apparent as it is more about how the spaces ‘feel’. The graceful way the spaces flow is anchored by the intention to create a transitional experience when moving from one room to another.

A difference ambience ensues at each of these spaces, the unique spatial effect was accomplished using a gradient approach where strategic applications of dark tones elevate into lighter hues and polished surfaces throughout the home.

“The house is modern, minimalist and luxurious all in one,” says the design team. “The main challenge was deciding how to bring a different experience, how the tone of colours changes from one space to another. We are glad we went for it as the interplay of different materials and tonal values have resulted in a strong design outcome.”
